There is no debate that serving as a resource family is a challenge. It’s a rewarding challenge, to be sure, but there are going to be some difficult points along the way. That’s why it’s so important that anyone who might want to become a resource family in California understands that they won’t be alone in the process. There is support available around every corner, and it’s a team effort to achieve great results for the youth in our communities.

The Same Goals

When it comes down to it, you wanted to become a resource family in California because you want to do something good for your community and the people who live in it. That’s exactly why agencies like Children First FFA do what we do, so everyone is on the same page from the start. Foster youth have unique needs that are specific to their situation, and both resource families and their agencies will work together to make sure those needs are met. This goes beyond the stipends that are paid by the foster system to support resource parents and includes things like training to deal with certain situations, making counseling and support groups available, and more.

An Open Line of Communication

The desired outcome for a foster child will only be reached when everyone is communicating openly and expressing exactly what they need out of the situation. After you become a resource family in California, the journey of learning isn’t over – in fact, it’s just beginning. You’ll have access to the information and advice that you need to make sure every child placed in your care has the opportunity to thrive right along with your family. Whatever it is that the foster child needs to stay on track or overcome the obstacles they are facing, that will be provided through a combined effort by all involved.
