Mentor Youth | Your Experiences Could Be Life-Changing for a Child

Mentor Youth

Mentor Youth | Do you feel that your life experiences could benefit an at-risk child? You are probably right! Most adults have a perspective on life that simply can’t be gained at a younger age, and offering to mentor youth who do not have a strong family life to fall back on is a generous and powerful gift.

You Don’t Need to be Famous to Mentor Children

Often, we see famous people taking time to visit children and talk with them about the future. While that’s great, and their time is appreciated, it’s not the only way to make an impact on a kid. It may be just as important, if no more so, for a ‘regular person’ to mentor youth in a one-on-one manner. Getting direct advice and encouragement from someone within their own community feels more real and might make a successful future seem more likely. Don’t make the mistake of thinking that you can’t mentor youth just because you have a typical job and no fame to your name – everyone has something to offer, so long as they are generous enough to share their time and invest in making a true connection with their mentee.

You Might Learn Something From Your Mentee

Mentoring is a two-way street. Sure, you’ll be there to share your experiences and answer questions, but don’t be surprised if you learn something along the way. Children have a lot to offer adults in terms of their fresh perspective on the world and their largely positive attitudes. Even children who come from difficult family situations tend to be optimistic about what they can accomplish, and that way of thinking is great for adults who left childhood behind long ago.

Solutions For Homeless Youth

Unfortunately, homelessness among youth in California is all too prevalent. In our area alone, we have over 300 high school students who don’t know where they will sleep each night, have had parents abandoned them, or who can’t get access to the things they need because they don’t have an adult who cares. When we realized just how severe this problem is, we took action to solve the immediate needs and prevent future homelessness among these teens through the Solutions for Youth Fund. be part of the solution. Help us provide necessary items for under-privileged and homeless youth.
